Day 67

And the winner is.... Red Cabbage Marmalade.  Only when I went to the Top Chef site, there was no actual recipe for the Red Cabbage Marmalade.  The rest of the dish was listed.  So does that mean it was just some red cabbage sauerkraut?

So the fans are happy.  Lest I am, as Blaze won Season 8 of Top Chef.  Though isn't it more like season 10  given we had two seasons of TCMasters?

But anyways, Looking forward to Top Chef Canada which starts in a couple of weeks on Food Network Canada.   It will be interesting to see who they bring in for our Northern star judges.  How many American cooking stars will be around the judge's table? How many of our own Canadian food celebs will be on hand?

Now that Chuck Hughes is an Iron Chef, will that carry any weight with him being on the show?

Today is totally a food day for me.

Day 66

Wishcasting Wednesday for March 30th 2011
This week the question being asked over on Jamie Ridler Studios   is "How do you wish to be brave?"

I think I wish to be myself again.
I used to be bold, carefree, passionate.   But, some how, I've found I've gotten too Stepford.   That's a very long post in itself which I might blog about later.

So how do I wish to be brave?   To be a bit more like I was when I was younger.

Day 65

I've set an odd goal for myself.   To read 45 books in 2011.
I wasn't going to at first, but I figure, with what I read for review, it shouldn't be all that hard to hit 45 by Dec 31st.

Coffins has

read 16 books toward her goal of 45 books.

Day 64

I wrote a short post on my main blog today.  It was the next installment of a story I have been writing on that blog.
First thing I've written in about 6 months.  You can check it out here

Sunday, March 27, 2011

Day 63

I almost did not blog on here today.

I don't really have anything today to talk about.   I'm finding that more and more common.  I've been blogging for years now and it's almost as if I'm blogged out.

Reading for review "Demons are a Girls Best Friend"

Day 62

Lemons are one of my favourite flavours.  So when I was at mom's I made a lemon cake.  I had picked up the lemons last week before I'd gotten sick, and only now had a day good enough to make the cake.
Everything was fine, until the last few minutes.  Then the cake, which looked perfect,  cracked when we went to take it out of the pan and half stuck on.
I had used a tablespoon of butter for greasing the pan too so I have no idea why it did that.  But it did.  So slightly disappointed on that.

And I decided for no real reason, that today I was going to do a sort of wrestling review.   I picked one match and did commentary for it on my wrestling blog.  Damn, I did not realize how rusty I had gotten over the last few months.  Okay, close to six months since I've done wrestling commentary, and I'm glad I did.  Just for the fact that I have gotten so rusty at it.
I think I'm going to try to every month do at lest one "favourites" match just to keep myself from totally loosing the bit of knowledge I've learned the last few years.

And yes I do miss doing it.

Day 61

Still battling a runny nose.  I just can not seem to shake this cold. It's like it's been super sized or something.

Went to mom's to watch the wrestling replay from this week.  We made scalloped potatoes and she made ham steaks for herself, and I made those soya meat-replacement thingies.  Suppose to be chicken replacement but it looked like a pork chop and tasted like mustard.   But I haven't been getting enough protein lately so I needed to have something.

There is this guy who works the express checkout at the grocery.  I've talked about him a bunch of times over the past year on my other blogs.  I thought he'd moved away or something because I hadn't seen him in a few months.   Today he was working.  He always seems to stand straighter when he sees me in the line,  and this is a guy who's line is always chalked full of women trying for his attention.  Anyway, my big chance to talk to him and of course my cold got in the way. I was trying not to snot on the poor boy for the two minutes I was there.

Thursday, March 24, 2011

Day 60

Quiet day here.  Still have the cold that just won't die.
Idea for another new novel.  If I get around anytime soon to getting it down I'll be shocked.
Saw this week's Top Chef All Stars.  Only one episode of the season to go.  I hope Blaze wins.

Day 59

Wishcasting Wednesday for March 23 2011
The question being asked this week over on Jamie Ridler Studios is "How do you wish to Sparkle?"

My reaction to that is vampires do not sparkle!  (Yes I am a very Anti-Twilight person!!!) Which I have been saying for the last few years. Now I'm suddenly seeing it on tee shirts...

But, seriously, how do I wish to sparkle.... I want to learn how to do something I've never done before, and do it extremely well.
What that is I'm not too sure right now.

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

Day 58

Happy Birthday to Me.

I'm 37 today.
I got a text message from my sister this morning, and 5 Facebook messages from my Aunt, Uncle, cousins and a friend I've known since 8th grade.

Facebook. That's all I'm going to say on the topic.

You know what I love about my birthday,  I share it with fellow Canadian William Shatner.   So happy birthday William Shatner.

Monday, March 21, 2011

Day 57

I scared the delivery lady today when she woke me up.  I didn't do anything on purpose, honest.  My nose is redder then the christmas reindeer and raw, not too mention my eyes were red and puffy-swollen nearly shut.  You would have thought I'd been crying for days, but no.  It's just this cold.
So another book came for delivery.  Lost count at the moment of how many I have on wait.

Then I went back to bed for .... let's see that was 8am and it's 5pm now... okay not good with math. Nor have I ever had a cold this long. It's been a full week.  And my eyes are literally dripping cold tears. Ice cold streaks running freely down my face for no reason other then I am sick.  this sucks by the way.

Well, at lest I have my voice back.

Sunday, March 20, 2011

Day 56

I added a header.
Just sitting here, my nose still running from the cold I just can not seem to get rid of this week, eating ramen noodles.  the store bought kind.  I'm not in any mood for real cooking today.

Saturday, March 19, 2011

Day 55

Don't crowd the mushrooms.

It's one of my favourite lines from the movie Julie/Julia
It's a saying I find myself muttering all the time, for many different reasons.   Last year, on my TYILOORN blog I posted a very different reason I was thinking of that line.

This morning, I'm just sitting here with my cold, watching this week's wrestling, having done a short post on my main blog, feeling... alone, sorry for myself, bored.  All the above.  And the line  Don't crowd the mushrooms keeps coming back to me.

In the movie, she says the line then asks if anyone is actually listening/reading her.
So that is where my head space is at this morning.

Friday, March 18, 2011

Day 54

Did nothing today.  Watched a movie. Ate too much.
Cold has moved into my sinuses. At lest I got my voice back today.   Am now trying to watch Chuck's Day Off  online on the Food Network Canada.  Can't wait for the episode of Iron Chef America this week with him.  Not sure when or how I'll get to see it, as I do not have cable and have to watch stuff online.

Thursday, March 17, 2011

Day 53

It's melted.  yay. The snow and ice has melted.  Into these pond size puddles everywhere.
I spent the day at mom's yet again.  I like cooking better in her kitchen even though it's a tiny little corner,  she's got all these kitchen gadgets like a food processor, electric mixer, springloading cake pans and rolling pins and other stuff I'm too poor to get at the moment.  Plus a collection of cookbooks bigger then even mine.
We made scalloped potatoes and veggie lasagna. While I was there, I also decided to make a homemade leek and potato soup.  Not bad considering I had no recipe.
Just as we were sitting down to eat, my aunt showed up with my cousin.  Mom had to babysit. Then my aunt tried the soup.  She told me it needed pepper that it wasn't spicy enough.  Then sat down and had two large bowls of it.   Nice Eh?

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Day 52

Wishcasting Wednesday for March 16th 2011
Over on Jamie Ridler Studios, the question this week is "What do you wish for the world?"
The easy answer would be peace.  But look at how they have been trying to go about getting it, in the most unpeaceful way.  So the answer I guess I would say is Listening .  Yes. Listening.  Because, what we lack is Understanding and until we all listen to hear only then will the understanding take root.

So I say for the world I wish Listening.

Recipes books

I am reading a book for review right now that has as it's underscore theme, a cookbook that has been handed down a few generations.  The whole reason I agreed to review the novel.
So, it's got me thinking about my own recipe book.  I have half my recipes on cards in a small plastic container and half in a store bought recipe scrapbook.
I sat down little bit ago and started just working on rearranging everything, as I have pages tucked in everywhere that I got from magazines and print outs from the cooking websites.

I'm curious to know how other people do their recipe books?  Do you do them like scrapbooks? In card boxes?  or what?

Day 51

Well, I'm sick.  Full on hacking cough that makes me sound like an Arctic Seal.
I was suppose to go to the cinema today to see the movie Rango but instead, I did what anyone who is feeling like crap did.  I went to mom's and curled up on her sofa all day.

I did stop off at the blockbuster on my way and rented Morning Glory  then made a huge pot of veggie soup while at mom's.  I made her peel all the veggies.

Monday, March 14, 2011

Day 50

50 days.  Already? Time flies.
I have to start thinking of something to do for photos for this blog.  Just not sure what yet.
Had a bit of a cough today, I hope I'm not coming down with anything.

Sunday, March 13, 2011

Day 49

Semi quiet day.  Finished the latest book review.
Drank a lot of tea.

Pulled out an old story of mine now, and trying to see if I can get any writing done.

Saturday, March 12, 2011

Day 48

Snow. Snow and more snow.

Reading the next book for review.  This one is about a witch.

Made pasta for supper.  Yay.

I don't mind living alone to be honest, but I hate supper time because of it.  The hours between 4:30pm -7pm are the worst when you are single.
And you never want to make anything too time consuming because of the cooking for one factor.

On the astrological side of things,  Uranus just moved into Aries and will be there for the next 8 years roughly.  This means a lot of truths will surface that were hidden for the last 7 years while Uranus had been in Pisces.

My readings and horoscopes and everything else, keeps saying this is the time to let anyone know I like them that I like them. Interesting, as there really isn't anyone other then my favourite wrestler and that's just been dealt with on the many other blogs I have had in the last 5 years.

p.s.  Daylight savings time tonight folks.

Friday, March 11, 2011

Day 47

I ended up making poached eggs last night for supper.   And left the pan a mess.  Totally forgot about it actually, as I went off to read after supper never even thought about the kitchen for the rest of the night.
Now I don't want to think of the kitchen.

Another 2 books arrived for review today.  Both 600 pagers.  I'm officially extremely behind.  Might not even get to mom's this weekend for the wrestling replays.

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Day 46

So last night, I hung out with my buddy M.  and did a sort of impromptu interview with him about his band.
I say sort of because he didn't really say much on the topic. But I did get enough footage to do a short video.
I did upload it to my main blog if you want to see it, or if you want to wait until I've gotten a few more done over the next while, that's cool too.  We're throwing around a few ideas for a video show.  Which is something we could both use.  Me, because I love editing stuff, and M. because he's got to get out of his narrow routine.
He wants to do this Trailer Park Boys type stuff, which is fine. I just hope the gang he's got lined up can stay sober enough to pull it off.

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Day 45

It's Wishcasting Wednesday -March 9th 2011   over on Jamie Ridler Studios.
This week's question is "What gifts do you wish to share?"

Usually the question of the week gets me blogging right away withing a minute or two... but this week, I've been sitting here for nearly twenty minutes and I am still clueless.

You know what, I'm going to say ME.   I'm the gift I want to share.

I've stayed in the shadows of my sister and cousins and friends long enough.  I'm done with being walked past or told I'm not good enough or that no one else will be interested.
I know this might sound a little bit ranty, but damn it!

We are all on this planet for a purpose, and it's high time those of us who have been feeling like the grey mouse in the room of white rabbits let our squeaks be heard.

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

Day 44

This is two posts that I originally posted on my main blog on April 20th 2010 and Aug 26th 2010
I had thought I had posted them here but I am not sure I have before.  Just a round of Kitchen Omens

If your nose itches you have a secret admirer.
If your lips itch you will soon be kissed.
If your right side of your body itches your lover is thinking of you.
If the bottom of your feet itch you are soon to travel.
If your left palm itches you are about to receive money or mail.

If you drop a silverware there will be a knock on your door.
If you drop a spoon it will be a male visitor, a fork a female.

  1. When you drop silverware/chopsticks   it means company is coming
  2. When you spill water when making coffee/tea  a storm is coming
  3. When cooking rice if a ring forms on the pot you are about to get money
  4. When boiling eggs if they crack in the water you are about to get uninvited company
  5. When the broom/mop falls company is coming
  6. When your nose itches you have a secret admirer
  7. When the bottom of your left foot itches you are to travel
  8. When your left palm itches you are about to receive money
  9. When your lips itch you will soon be kissed
  10. If you sneeze on a Saturday you will see your true love the next day
  11. If you sneeze on a Tuesday you will soon kiss a stranger
  12. If your shoe laces come undone your true love is thinking of you
  13. If the right side of your body itches your true love is thinking of you
  14. If your ear is burning then someone is talking about you

Monday, March 7, 2011

It was a bad morning for me.  All I will say was there was crying.

Then around 2pm the doorbell rang.  I was not expecting anyone, but I should have known someone would show, as I dropped my chopsticks the other day and that always means company.  {Food Omen#1- Dropping silverware or chopsticks means company is coming over}  anyways, it was the delivery lady with my latest book I'm suppose to do for review.  "Alice in Zombieland"  I'm sort of behind on a few books right now.  I had finally gotten up to speed and in the last two weeks have gotten another round of about 10 books.

As far as tonight goes,  with the snow and me being behind I'm not too sure right now if I'm going out with M. or not.

Day 43

We had a few inches of snow last night.  It's just over ankle deep this morning.
I haven't done any reading all weekend, which now has me behind schedule for my latest review.  I will have to try to get at lest 4 solid hours in now on that.

When I was at the grocery yesterday, I managed to get two loaves of bread on clearance, which I plan on using for some more bread puddings.  Possibly one of the easiest things on the planet to make, and therefore one of my latest obsessions.

As I sit here now, I do believe my plans for the night, once my buddy M. gets off work, is to go with him to one of the local pools so he can try to get the phone number of  this life guard that he's got a crush on. Should be interesting.

Sunday, March 6, 2011

Day 42

Overcast with light blowing snow.

But I went out to return a few movies that mom had me rent for her earlier in the week. The Tyler Perry films.
While I was out, I headed to the grocery, to pick up a few things, and once again try to talk to the uber cute produce stock boy.   Only, the place was jammed today and I couldn't get anywhere near him.  He did stare a bit and smile that shy smile of his.  Which he does all the time.

Then headed to mom's where I had some more of that peach wine before coming back home.  I was suppose to get together for coffee with my buddy M.  but he never phoned.  I suppose that's a good thing, as I was suppose to get together with him IF his date went bad.  Poor guy, he's been trying to get this girl he's known forever to go on a date, and she finally agreed.  So I guess not hearing from him is a good thing for him.

Saturday, March 5, 2011

It's just after 7pm on a Saturday.  Dusk.  Today wasn't bad for the weather, -8c here. No winds and the sun was out until nearly 1pm before it became overcast.  Which is typical around here. Overcast. Great place to film a vampire movie.

I went to mom's and watched a reply of WWE's Smackdown. We made pizzas for supper.  I had mushrooms and peppers on mine, mom had meat on her's.

While she read her paper, I watched Chuck's Day Off  online on the FNC and opened the bottle of wine she had in the fridge. God knows how long it's been sitting in there.  Few years I'm sure.  It wasn't bad, wasn't great either. Some sort of peach wine.  I'm sure I'll have no real issues drinking it over the course of the next week when I go back to mom's.

But yes, Chuck Hughes.  Damn, that man's hotter then hell in a bathtub!  I must thank Suzie for telling me about his show.  What surprised me was that mom actually watched part of the episode with me. What did not surprise me was mom's comments while she watched part of the episode with me.  "Why are you watching him when all he makes is meat? He's useless for you cause he's just making meat. You don't eat meat why are you bothering to watch the show?"

Mom fails to see the appeal of Chuck.  Mom needs her eyes checked.

Day 41

Foodie networks.  Damn, I love them.
I checked in with my cooking blog this morning, as I haven't posted on there in a month. I'm always joyfully surprised to see how many hits that blog gets, and I rarely post on it.  Food. Truly what makes the world go round.

Okay Canada,  I'm excited are you excited??????   Top Chef Canada!  Yes,  starts in a few weeks on Food Network Canada.
I was just saying, on the other blog , I hope they post the episodes on Youtube or something so that it's accessible outside of Canada too.

Friday, March 4, 2011

I just got back from the dentist.  The bus ride was longer then the appointment.
I never come away from there feeling anything.  Today, they had an intern and she made Jack the Ripper look like a pussy.
My fillings are sore from her scrapping at them. Gums were bleeding too.  Not fun.

With the O.I., every time I go to any kind of medical anything, at some point the doctor brings in a gaggle of students.  Feel like a science project more often then not.

Day 40

Getting ready for a dentist appointment.

It's still blowing snow around outside.  I keep loosing things in my apartment, maybe I have gremlins?
There is this french cookbook that I want, only it's impossible to find and I can't read french.  I intend to find a copy anyway.

Thursday, March 3, 2011

Day 39

Last night, I had a 2 hour plus conversation with my buddy M.
I was trying to help him sort out a situation and ended up just getting tangled up in my own.

Part of the issue is that his biggest passion sometimes gets in the way of things.  I envy him on this.

This is the key reason I keep coming back to the movie Julie/Julia  because I keep hoping to find my real passion. I keep thinking that it's going to spark something I didn't notice before.  So far, it hasn't.

My buddy M. feels like he's at the tip of a life crisis, but I don't see it that way.  Granted, I'm not living his life.  But just the fact he knows what his biggest passion is, he has dedicated the last fifteen years to his passion, I think he's right on track.

So here I am today, watching the snow blowing around outside my window, listening to the traffic and the neighbours across the hall, I'm curled up in my bedroom just thinking.  Wondering why it is that we can always see so clearly our friends situations, but are always clueless on our owns?

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Day 38

Wishcasting Wednesday for March 2nd 2011

Today on Jamie Ridler Studio, the question is "What limits do you wish to set?"

Usually, I have no trouble thinking of something right away, but this morning, I'm almost muddled up.
Because of my disability, I've been doing everything I can to break out of my limits.

To answer the question this week... I am very tired of my mom and sister expecting me to drop everything whenever they yell.  Just because I am not married they assume I never have any plans or a life, and do not even ask me if I am busy, they just expect me to be available, and when I say no to stuff it always starts them on a tantrum.  ..... I wish to set limits with my family.

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Day 37

March 1st.

New month. Heading into spring.  Been at this blog now for 5 weeks.
Am I feeling any different?

But, it's nice to have one spot that is drama free.  A free zone. Yes, I still rant on my main blog, and I still get into other issues on my relationship/sex blog.  But, ironically I find myself not diving into it as blindly as I was before.
Could it be, could this project be helping?

I can honestly say, when I started this, I had no real intention or directional out come.  I just really missed the old "The Year I Lived Off Of Ramen Noodles"blog.  I just wanted to get back to that blog, but the blog itself, was vibewise, too heavy.

So, now that I am 5 weeks into this one, do I have a goal?
As crazy as this sounds, I intend that my goal of this blog is not only to have one space that removes the drama from my life as much as possible, but to also find my purpose.

I keep coming back, over and over again to the movie Juile/Julia  and how Julie Powell was going through a bit of a life crisis when she was inspired to start the project, and how Julia Child was also feeling less then great when she decided on cooking as her path.
I admit, I'm in the middle of a muddle and expecting to find the answers by way of this blog.

This is sort of becoming my center.

The key is there to the puzzle, I just haven't spotted it yet.

I'm starting to sound like a puzzle box myself so, I'm off to make a cup of coffee and getting ready to go to mom's to watch the second of the Tyler Perry movies we rented yesterday.   The rest of the plan for the day is to make a bread pudding while I'm over there.   If mom remembered to take out a half loaf of bread before bed last night.
